A photogenic toad near our house… he did not hop away even after I took this picture. As you can see from the drops on the toad and blades of grass, it had just been raining.
Happy New Year everyone! 2011 is going to be a revolutionary year.

Pink flowers covered in drops of water… from rain or a medicine dropper?

A macro of four sharpened pencils against a purple sunset. You’ve got all the essential colors here… red, purple, green, and blue.
Sharpened Pencils 1-3 are really embarrassing, so I won’t be posting them.

Drops falling from a faucet into a steel sink at a restaurant. I made this black and white and added a lot of contrast. The flash fired and the shutter speed was 1/30 of a second, which is very long for capturing falling droplets. I’m surprised this turned out so good.

A baby snake my father was trying to pick up with his glove. This is a new edit of a photo from 2005. I removed a lot of dirt on the glove and sidewalk using the spot healing brush. This snake is long dead, unless he managed to live over five years.

An ugly spider with red spikes.
Spiny Backed Orb Weaver (Gaster Acantha)
The most colorful and easily recognized Florida spider, having what looks like a white and black spotted shell on its back, and 6 pointy red spines. The web contains tufts of silk, probably to prevent birds from flying into it.
Females are 5mm to 10mm long, 10mm to 14mm wide. They hang in the center of the web.
The bite of the Spiny Backed Orb Weaver is not known to cause serious reactions in humans.

More of the Autumn Leaves series.

I took this picture of raindrops falling at night, and my camera’s flash reflected off one of the raindrops. It looks like a star going supernova.

Falling raindrops. I shined an incandescent flashlight on them and used my camera’s flash to make them look like fiery sparks.

This dog asks the questions, “Why are you looking at me? What makes me so special?”
The correct title of this photo is Why are You Looking at Me? but the ? mark is omitted due to technical restrictions.
