Some apple slices covered in honey baking in the oven. I shot this when I was cooking with friends for the International Food Festival at Daytona State College’s DeLand campus Nov. 2009. I wasn’t there for the festival and we didn’t sell much food, but at least this photo came of it.
The glass on the front of the oven had a speckled pattern which, combined with the heat, makes the inside of the oven foggy.
For editing, I just added contrast and changed the white balance in Adobe Camera Raw before importing into Photoshop. I didn’t …

I shot this sunset from the backseat while my friend was driving. This is on West International Speedway Boulevard right near Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.
On the left is the rear-view mirror and at the bottom you see the windshield wipers. That’s why I’m titling this Driving Sunset.
I cloned out a big electronic sign at the bottom-right. It was the college’s sign, but it was bright blue and annoying. You can still see the clone marks if you brighten the photo considerably, but no one will notice normally.

A beautiful golden sunset right before sundown.
I shot this right down my street. There were power lines blocking the way, so I walked in someone’s yard to cut them out of the shot. Some woman yelled “get off my property” at me as I was shooting this, so I tripped the shutter quickly and then walked off.
I put contrast at +100% in Adobe Camera Raw 5.0 and then used the curves tool to push it even further. Even though I pushed the exposure bias down to -1.33, I think I was in the wrong metering mode …

White flowers on top of a green plant out back of the cafeteria at Daytona State College (main campus).
On auto my Canon Rebel XTi over-exposed the flowers majorly; I had to set the exposure bias way down to get them in range. I’ve titled this “Dark Sunshine” because everything but the flowers is dark.

Unlike in Publix’s ads, tomatoes can be very ugly. I shot this at the local produce market and you can see spots all over them. Granted, I added contrast, color, and vignetting, but I didn’t bother editing out all the spots like the professionals do. Normally I’d call it laziness, but today I’m calling it realism. These are tomatoes without silicone… no, that has nothing to do with boobs.

After the sun went down, the clouds still looked great. Shot this last Friday, 2009-09-04, from the car.

The lighthouse in New Smyrna Beach, at 3 A.M. This is a ten second exposure so I got the light spinning around several times. I didn’t bring a tripod. I just set the camera on the concrete by the river, being careful not to let it fall in.

The arrangement of these streetlights reminded me of how the 1’s line up in a mathematical matrix in reduced row echelon form. Or maybe I just couldn’t come up with a better title. I’ll never tell.
This photo is very grainy… grain adds character, right?

On the highway at night. Just 800 miles to go!
This photo is low quality, but I decided to use it anyway. Anything taken at F1.8 is blurry. It was raining a lot which made the road slick, though that may look like distortion here.

My favorite color used to be blue, but red is so much more bold and eye-catching. I switched last year. Also, blue is the primary color our eyes are least sensitive to. We are most sensitive to green. Red is in-between.
This is a flower in one of the gardens on the main campus at Daytona State College. I took this during a break.
