Photo: Ocean in Motion

The waves at Daytona Beach in January of 2005. There were a lot of birds there; you can see one at the bottom.

Today is my 19th birthday!

Muddy Truck

Someone did some off-road driving recently. I saw this truck while walking… Almost looks like the owner sprayed mud on it.

It was about to rain anyway, so all the mud is surely gone.

Happy Halloween everyone! Don’t worship death. Sorry I don’t have a pumpkin photo for you… Well, here are pumpkins I photographed 4 years ago.

Photo: QUEEN

QUEEN

This could be a tribute to the rock band Queen, but I decided the title on the spot without thinking of them. This cat seems regal. A leader with an overbearing sense of entitlement. Instead of running away like the other cats in our neighborhood do, she stood her ground. She stared my camera down as I took many pictures from different angles. It could be a male cat—I didn’t check—but I didn’t get that impression. This is a queen cat.

I darkened her pupils and brightened the whites of her eyes. She has interesting eyes. I made them better. Photographers do that.

Photo: Basketball Hoop

By Richard X. Thripp at 2008-09-19T00:17:05Z in Photography, Stock Photos, with these tags: abstract, b&w, basketball hoop, canon rebel xti, conceptual, ef 50mm 1:1.4, gray, macro, shallow dof, sky, 2 Comments. 153 words.

Basketball Hoop

Looking up through a basketball hoop.

I tried thinking of a more abstract title, but nothing is better than “Basketball Hoop.” Sure, if this were a plain, ordinary photo of a basketball hoop, a creative title might add some jazz, but when the photo is creative on it’s own, a mundane title is a good contrast. A creative title would work too, but a mundane title for a creative piece is far better than an unfitting creative title.

I took this at F2.5, so even parts of the netting are out of focus. The background was a dull blue sky, but it works quite well when converted to black and white. Then, I added lots of contrast. No vignetting, because it would feel contrived on this image.

Someone somewhere has done a photo just like this, but I haven’t.
