I normally don’t really mind the captchas but sometimes they are literally unreadable and I have to try a few times to get it right. Usually they let you refresh the image if you can’t read it, and that’s a good feature, but sometimes that’s not possible and I just have to keep trying over and over.

I can’t believe some of the Captcha codes on some major websites - Digg springs to mind - they are simply unreadable and often don’t have audio files to help you! I can understand it on rubbish sites and random blogs, but to have a poor captcha that requires a few guesses really puts people off commenting in my experience. The Captcha add-on (I think the company is called Captcha?) is great though, it gives you audio and clear visible words from random e-books/websites. It should be uniform across all sites…

Yes, and you can do it by right-clicking and selecting open in new window. Unfortunately, there is no “open in same window” to overwrite target=”_blank”. Someone needs to write a Firefox plugin that ignores that.

That one is nice! I guess you were the only one with that last name. That’s what my college does for professors’ addresses. One of my teachers was named Casey Blanton and her email is blantoc@daytonastate.edu.

Yes, but those URLs are typed out and put into print often. Just like with phones. We have speed-dial, but lots of people don’t use it, just as many people still type in URLs.

I use it sometimes on images as some people get confused when linked to a JPEG, but otherwise, no.

You are really right about the captchas, some are simply incomprehensible and you have to do it over because you either overlooked to type the password again or clicked the “I agree” part. It can surely bring you to your wits’ end.

Violently to open a new window in a browser - all the same what to put on a table to the user the second monitor without demand. Certainly, to work with two monitors happens sometimes conveniently. Certainly, it is sometimes convenient to open and a new window in a browser that in to look contents from the “basic” window. But that and another should be exclusively voluntary choice of the user.

I agree with what you wrote about universities not giving the students a good email address. I have seen that frequently, though my personal experiences were fairly lucky. I had one that was simply mylastname@myuniversity.edu and another one that shortened my name, which was annoying.

Very well said. Not only these captchas are annoying at best, they can be impossible to read. Try the audio and it does not work. Whoever thought of that was having an off day. Click here to enter is a sure way to get me going somewhere else. But my pet peeve are site with loud obnoxious music I need to hunt for a place to turn off. I have my own music thank you very much. Don’t need to mix it with something else.
Don’t expect that people will change their habit because of this post or our comments, but thanks for posting.

Absolutely agree on the registration before reading stuff on forums. It’s my pet hate - when I arrive at a forum like that, it’s usually because I’ve come from Google trying to find out some information. If they make me register before I can read, I move right along. On the other hand, if I can freely read, I’ll usually spend some time browsing the site in general, and often even register and become active.
