Bugs & Problems

• No canonical URIs. Appending “/index.php” after domain works without a 301 redirect, appending “/category” after domain works for categories without redirecting, as does accessing pages using Wordpress’ default URIs. Please don’t link to those URIs. 2008-04-23 Update: Netfirms updated, so this is mostly fixed [1]. The remaining problems: “/category” won’t redirect, adding “www.” won’t work, and you can hack a post name without changing the post ID, and there is no redirect.

• Adding www. to richardxthripp.thripp.com or any other subdomain returns “server not found” error, instead of a 301 redirect.

• Subdomains for other users do not work, for example, jt.thripp.com [2] only redirects to richardxthripp.jt.thripp.com.

• The PDA layout needs work (no images, no easy way to thread comments).

The problems below are minor, hard to fix, or fixed.

• “*REPLY TO THIS*” links take you to the comment form, so you can’t reference the author’s comment without scrolling back up. I will not change this.

• There is no option to be emailed just for threaded replies to your comment. All that is available is “email me when anyone else comments on this entry.” I will not change this.

• No comment previewing. 2008-01-10 Update: There is now comment previewing, try it out.

• In entries in the Xanga mirror [3], the text ” SHARETHIS.addEntry( { title: “*title*”, url: “*uri*” } );” is displayed at the bottom of each entry for no reason. I will not fix this. 2008-01-15 Update: I came across a fix for this; it won’t happen on any future posts to the Xanga mirror.

• Comments link on printable pages is broken. 2008-01-20 Update: Fixed, by removing the links.

• In both the LiveJournal [4] and Xanga [5] mirrors, photos are listed with a price of $0.00, or with the correct price but a broken “add to cart” link. 2008-01-20 Update: Fixed! The buttons work and the right price is displayed now.

• “Add to cart” buttons are broken in RSS feeds. 2008-01-20 Update: Switched to Feedburner [6] (new feed [7]); the buttons work now. Internet Explorer always breaks buttons in feeds, sadly.

• Shopping cart shows up in search (search “shopping cart”), but buttons are broken. 2008-01-24 Update: Fixed, by removing the shopping cart from the search engine.

• Upon logging out, the sidebar says you are still logged in, but it is wrong (click a link to another page and the sidebar will return to normal). 2008-01-26 Update: Fixed by disabling caching for the user form.

• Invalid XHTML throughout the site. 2008-01-15 Update: Most of this is fixed [8]; there are some lingering errors with paragraph tags in comments sections, and the add to cart buttons in the shop, but they display correctly. 2008-01-26 Update: Everything [9] is [10] fixed [11]!

• “Add to cart” buttons redirect to page with “/index.php” appended after domain; same in shopping cart. My host is Netfirms and they don’t enable AllowOverride All in their server configurations, so cruftless permalinks do not work in Wordpress. I use this plugin [12] to fix that, but it doesn’t rewrite internal URIs fetched with REQUEST_URI, affecting my shopping cart plugin [13]. 2008-04-23 Update: fixed [1]

• Every entry in the shop category must also appear in a child category with the slug “default” (titled “shop”); this is required for yak [13]. 2008-05-19 Update: Fixed, by removing all photos from the parent category.
