About Richard

My photo

I’m Richard X. Thripp, a 21 year old from Daytona Beach, Florida. I am a photographer, piano composer, and writer.

I got my first camera in 2004 and have been taking pictures ever since. I got my first piano in 2001 (a cheap electronic keyboard with under 40 keys) and finally started composing music seriously in July of 2010. Check out my new website Composer’s Journey, and my first album, Inferno.

My father is an unsuccessful writer and my mother is a Systems Administrator for Goodwill in San Francisco, California. My parents are divorced and remarried. I live with my father and step-mother. I have a half-sister named Rachel who is 11 and lives with her parents in California.

My interests include photography, personal development, piano, violin, PHP, WordPress, writing, and blogging. I graduated from Daytona State College with an A.A. degree in Elementary Education in spring 2011. I am a Christian, a Republican, and support Ron Paul’s agenda.

  1. It was great to see you recently and your father. I love your site. Take care.

  2. Richard,
Just wanted to let you know that I used one of your free photos in my header for the website for my books, http://www.fairytalenovels.com which are fairy tales set in modern settings such as New York City. Your photo of “The Brave Rose” was perfect!

I have put a link to your website in the footer of my new website, giving you photo credit. I hope it helps your exposure!

    Thanks again for the photo,
    Peace and good

    • Thanks Regina, the header looks great! Good luck with your book and publishing company.

  3. Hi,
I know some of your images are CC3 attribution license but do you have more of the raindrops series? (http://richardxthripp.thripp.com/tag/raindrops-series/)
Looking to get a few more for a commercial client – resolution required is about 1440×900 so a small token should be paid? If you have more of the raindrops/dark background type, send a few small images (640×480) my way and I’ll go through with the client. Thanks.

  4. We think too small, like the frog at the bottom of the well. He thinks the sky is only as big as the top of the well. If he surfaced, he would have an entirely different view.

  5. Your photography is so amazing! iI absolutly love it! Today you gave my mother some of your photos. They are amazing! I take photos myself and you inspired me to take even more pictures and practice even more. Thank you so much!

    • Thanks dear! You’re welcome, I think your mom mentioned she would give the prints to you. I need to update this page, I am 21 now!

  6. Hi!

I am looking for a photo called Fiery-Orange-Sunset. Do you have it perhaps with higher resolution than I could find on deviantart? Actually I would like to have it on my bedroom wall. (I am Hungarian, so sorry for my English)

    Thanks!

    All the best!
    András

  7. I actually respect Ron Paul. He is not afraid standing up for what he knows is right. I do not know if I will vote for him. I don’t know if he can prevail. It is not looking so good right now. Maybe things will change.

    • I’m mostly digital, but I still do 35mm film once in a while with a Canon or Nikon SLR. I do only gelatin-silver B&W, but would like to learn C41 B&W and C41 color this year.

      • Gelatin silver is something I’ve always wanted to do but never really pursued it. I have done a lot of black and white work which is still sat in the boxes of film ready for development, I want to do it myself to have full creative control over the development stages, trouble is I don’t have access to a darkroom anymore!

Personally I’ve had some amazing results from negative C41 film, I’m a bit of a large format fanatic because it just gives you total control of everything now you can pick a good 40’s press camera like MPP or Speed Graphic up from ebay very cheaply, the film isn’t so cheap though which makes every frame so much more valuable. I tend to work with Fuji 160 S on large format and Fuji 160 C on medium format and 35mm. Kodak Portra 160 NC is great film but more expensive! C41 rocks because it still gives more dynamic range than digital in my experience. Hope you enjoy it anyway, your work is great and can’t wait to see some of the results.

  8. Just popped around to say thank you for the lovely URL shortner – I’ve learnt alot just going through the code. Nice work.

  9. Very interesting post. Randomly came across it while googling eighteen and moving out. Ironic eh? Can relate alot to the situation in many ways so thanks for writing it. At least I know I’m not alone.

  10. Thank you for the beautiful photos you handed to me today! Talented…

      • You had given out some photos at DSC, and my daughter Rebeccah brought them home. I looked up your site and browsed through the images. Love your work! You have a wonderful gift. Your tips are so helpful too.

        • Thanks. I remember Rebeccah from my Supplemental Instruction for Survey of Biology session yesterday. I assume from your email address that you take photos too; do you have a website?

  11. I’m sorry to hear that you don’t want to work for a living. Writing for a living is work. No doubt about it. It’s not the same as construction but it definitely involves discipline, not always doing what you want, and dedication.

    good luck.

    • I must rephrase that. I don’t want to work in the system for a living. That means I don’t want to have a traditional job or a boss.

I also don’t want to do physical labor for money.
