Thanks man! On my Canon Rebel XTi I view the photo on the LCD screen and zoom in all the way. If the focused subject is sharp there, the photo is sharp. If it looks blurry, I re-shoot. Check the histogram and make sure the graph declines sharply at the right. If it doesn't, your photo is probably over-exposed.

Of course, composition and editing is a whole 'nother ballgame. Be creative! Grab a friend and take her picture. Use props. Go walk in the woods and look through the trees.

This is a great article indeed. I fall under the quantity photography, because I’m never sure if what I see through the LCD screen is what will come up once it is high quality on the monitor. But focusing it more would probably make more high quality shots than the just got lucky ones. Thanks for all of the tips!

You're welcome! I have a Canon Rebel XTi, and the zoom tool on it is pretty good, so I can tell sharpness right away. I also know my LCD screen is a bit biased toward yellow, while the pictures are cooler (more blue) on my calibrated monitor. A lot of this comes from experience with your camera.

If I'm doing a portrait I'll snap ten near-identical frames or so, and then in a minute have the best one and the other nine deleted, right from my camera's screen. It's still important to take a lot of pictures; this is about not shooting willy-nilly. :blindfold:

Thanks! I hope this made you think about photography more freely and creatively.

I did give out some print copies of this at college, which people enjoyed. Feel free to spread the word so other people can read this.
