I find myself using ISO 1600 a lot on my Rebel XTi despite the high amount of noise, because a fast shutter speed is worth it, especially if you are shooting handheld in low light and/or with a slow lens.

ISO just controls gain, so ISO 200 should allow you to use 1/200 instead of 1/100 sec. shutter speed with the same exposure, for example. Havent fooled with the ISO much but might see what setting it to a higher setting will do.

The Canon Rebel I use works really well to capture rainfall when I set it to a faster shutter speed. If you can get a rain covering for your dSLR, that would make it safer.

Sometimes you have to take risks to get good pictures. The only problem is motion blur from wind. If you want to freeze the raindrops, you need a flash or a combination of a large aperture and high ISO speed. Also, the flash must have a high shutter synchronization... 1/200 of a second won't cut it.The best time to get pictures of raindrops is when it's raining while the sun is out, though it doesn't happen often.

If you want clear pictures not showing raindrops, use a tripod with a slow shutter speed. However, it's quite difficult for me to taking clear pictures when it rains. I've tried several camera settings but still missed the rain.

I love taking pictures with my Canon EOS. I get that too; you have to change a lot of camera settings to get good pictures. And you won't catch the rain without a fast shutter speed, requiring a large aperture and/or high ISO speed.

Thanks!
