There is another memory card issue which you do not address, that is theft and accidental loss. My son lost 2 weeks of pictures during an international trip when someone stole his camera. I lost a week of pictures when I drove off leaving my camera on top of my car.

If we had been switching cards during our trip and storing the cards separate from the camera we'd have some of our pictures.

Swapping cards in the middle of a gale or in the middle of a stream balancing on uneven rocks in strong current is just silly, swap your cards in a place of relatively safety, at the end of the day in a room or at camp. The store them away from your camera, perhaps where you keep the photocopy of your passport and credit cards.

BTW: 10k inserts at 2 insertions per day every day = 13 years of use. I'm not worrying about exceeding the wear and tear level of the card or reader. I won't be using this camera as my primary camera in 13 years.

i really don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question or a yes or no. it's really about personal preference. your experience might be different from mine or someone elses. we're all different, no one will do or think the same way about a matter.

i guess it's like a retirement vehicle. no one should put all their eggs in one basket no matter how well a "vehicle" is performing, but if someone does, that's the road they take. hopefully, they will still get to where they are going. if not, that's on them.

thanks for sharing your views. i think it's a personal decision and not a right or wrong answer. :smile3:

Thank you. I hope I've made some people think about the way they use memory cards.

I still rotate a bunch of 2GB and 1GB cards, because it was cheaper that way when they were on sale. Usually, it isn't, though.
